Plantar Fasciitis Treatment

Strain and impact on the feet can damage ligaments, muscles or tendons, causing painful conditions. Plantar fasciitis is one such condition that can create pain and limit mobility. Runners and athletes are more likely to suffer this painful foot condition. However, anyone can injure the ligament, resulting in plantar fasciitis. If you have acute heel pain, you may have plantar fasciitis, which is treatable at Medici Orthopaedics & Spine.

Symptoms and Causes of Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammatory condition that affects the thick plantar fascia ligament that runs from the heel to the toes across the bottom of the foot. This ligament creates the arch in the foot and can be damaged from overuse. Tears, strains and excessive use causes the ligament to become inflamed. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common reasons for foot pain, especially in those who run, walk or stand for long periods of time.

The main symptom of plantar fasciitis is a shooting, sharp pain in the heel. Most people with this condition feel the pain after they have been off their feet, usually when they first wake up and take their first steps. They may also have symptoms after sitting for a period, then walking again. While the pain will dissipate as the ligament stretches, the pain can continue for months or years without treatment.

To stop plantar fasciitis pain, the inflammation in the plantar fascia ligament needs to be addressed. Our medical team can devise a treatment plan based on the severity of the inflammation and damage to the ligament. Physical therapy is usually recommended to stretch the muscles and ligaments, improving stability to reduce strain on the plantar fascia. Other treatments may include anti-inflammatory steroid injections or medications to control inflammation and limit pain.

Love Dr. Sonny and his practice. I appreciate the time he takes with me. I would rather him run late and take his time with me than rush me through. Pain is not something that’s a pleasure to deal with. I appreciate his knowledge and compassion. The surgical center is great too. Their staff is so caring! Thank you Dr. Sonny!
