Both PRP and cortisone injections are used to treat pain — but they work in very different ways.
- Cortisone injections are anti-inflammatory. They calm down pain and swelling fast, which can be great in the short-term. But they don’t heal the tissue — they simply suppress the inflammation. And repeated use over time can weaken cartilage or tendons.
- PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy, on the other hand, uses your own blood, spun to concentrate the healing platelets. These platelets are then injected into the injured area to stimulate actual tissue repair. It takes longer to feel results compared to cortisone, but the effects are more natural and long-lasting.
⚖️ Think of cortisone as a quick fix — PRP as a longer-term solution that helps your body heal from within.
